K9 Kira
&
Robbie Smith
“Kira” is certified in narcotics detection, tracking, patrol and apprehension.  Both dogs go through
extensive training weekly by their handlers and attend a yearly training where they are re-certified at
the West Virginia Police K-9 Association.

Our K-9 Program began in the spring of 2005 and the program has grown with grants, donations from
the Mineral County Board of Education, civic organizations and citizens of Mineral County.  No funding
is provided by County Government.  Both handlers have K-9 vehicles which are Dodge Durango’s
equipped with cages in the rear for the K-9’s.

100% of all donations go directly to the K-9 Program.  Your donation is sincerely appreciated
and will help maintain a vital program in law enforcement in Mineral County.
Cost for our K-9 program is high.  Kennels, vet bills, equipment, and training are all costly.  You can
support our valuable law enforcement program by sending a tax-deductible donation to help support
our K-9 Program.  Send your check to:

  I GAVE MY ALL

I am a deputy in a canine crew
I have been trained to see it through.
When danger is near my ears perk up,
They taught me that when I was a pup.
I am often there to protect your rights,
             my presence sometimes hinders fights,
I never attack with thought to kill,
I never worry a single thought,
As to how I will fare at a certain spot.
The love I have for a handler’s care,
Is all I need, each day to fare.
And if some day my luck turns bad,
I will relish the joys I have ever had.
To be with men who stand for good,
in a special kind of “brotherhood.”
The story’s end by now you know,
of how I tried for a better show,
when I was called and I gave my all.
